Sophia Gilmson, Russian-born pianist, graduated cum laude from the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Conservatory in Russia where she studied with Vitaly Margulis. She has concertized extensively in Russia, Italy, and the United States to high critical acclaim. Among her awards are The First Prize in the Young Artists Competition in New York City, Teachers Grand Prize in the Piano International Recording Competition, Austin Critics Table Mount Everest Award; and several Teaching Excellency awards, including Collegiate Teacher of the Year Award presented by the Texas Music Teachers Association. Her students have won major prizes on national and international levels. She has presented workshops and master classes nationally including World Piano Pedagogy and Music Teachers National Association Conferences. Presently she holds the position of Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy at the University of Texas School of Music. |
