Elyse Kakacek will be a junior this year at North Side College Preparatory High School in Chicago. She started studying piano eight years ago with Linda Barker. She performed at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy in 2003. She is an annual participant in the Achievement in Music Examinations sponsored by the Illinois State Music Teachers Association, and has played four times in the Chicago Area Music Teachers Assocation (CAMTA) Sonata/Sonatina Festival where she has been awarded three gold and one silver medal. She has also sung and toured in North America and Europe with the Chicago Children's Choir since age 6, performing with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. She also plays violin in her high school orchestra. Last year, she was in her school's production of The Sound of Music where she played the role of Louisa. She is also a part-time composer and has performed her music in the Honors Recital for the CAMTA Composition Festival. This summer, she has begun the study of bluegrass mandolin. She hopes to major in piano performance in college and eventually become a conductor. Her hobbies include swimming, and she is quite proud to announce that recently she got her driver's license and was able to, for the very first time, drive herself to her piano lesson! |
